Board of Trustees: Scotland, PA Location

On May 26, 2017, the Winebrenner Theological Seminary Board of Trustees approved the discontinuation of academic operations at the Scotland, PA, location.  On June 15, 2017, the Winebrenner Board of Trustees approved a “Teach Out” plan that includes information for current and prospective students regarding the available options.  A steadfast commitment to our students’ academic success remains our top priority throughout all of these discussions.

The Board of Trustees has tasked Dr. Brent C. Sleasman, President, and the members of his management staff with providing the necessary documentation to the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and the Association of Theological Schools (ATS). This includes both development and implementation of the teach-out plan to carry out the decision of the Board of Trustees.

As of June 22, 2017, Winebrenner Theological Seminary is seeking approval from the HLC for the teach out plan which will support students currently enrolled in degree programs at the Scotland Pennsylvania additional location.  A Change Petition has been submitted for approval of the ATS.

What are the primary reasons for the decision?

The Board of Trustees arrived at this decision after reviewing data related to the enrollment figures beginning in 2013 along with financial data from the same time period.

Does closure of the Scotland Campus location mean an end to delivering theological education within Pennsylvania?

No. The PTI program will continue in cooperation with the regions of the CGGC in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Masters level students will be able to access courses online and in intensive models or face-to-face courses at the Findlay, OH campus.
