Highlighting Collaboration: Cuba, House Churches, & Winebrenner Seminary

Recently I was invited to travel to Cuba to assist in training a variety of house church leaders. I’ve spent considerable time in Haiti, so I am very familiar with the Caribbean climate this time of year (and, it makes my family very jealous that I was there in November while they were still in northwest Ohio). However, each international context is unique and it was a privilege to learn first-hand about this beautiful island. We visited three churches and taught over 120 students over several days of training. I focused on teaching a method for biblical interpretation which could be used in personal study and for future leadership training by those who attended.

The students ranged from long-time house church leaders to at least one new believer, who spoke openly about how valuable she found a new methodology for studying the Bible. On Sunday I spoke at church (with an interpreter/translator to translate from English to Spanish) in a setting that may not look that different from your own:

On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, we traveled to a different church each day to lead six hours of teaching. This would translate to about .5 credits, using a US-based educational system.

We spent Thursday seeing parts of the Greater Havana area and, at the request of our host, stopped to pray for the city:

Winebrenner is committed to equipping leaders for service in God’s kingdom – and, it’s good to be frequently reminded that our mission is not just about one country or continent and isn’t limited to one political or economic system.

You are part of a network of students and partners from around the world! Continue to pray for discernment for us as we evaluate our future opportunities in Cuba and other countries around the globe.
