Accessibility: The Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20)

16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:16-20).

Winebrenner Theological Seminary is answering the call of Jesus in Matthew 28:19 to Go and Make Disciples through highly accessible theological education.

Having worked at a Christian Camp in the past, there was a wise gentleman who often told the story of an apple seed to all of the incoming summer staff. He would hold up a ripened apple for all to see, as he cut through the apple quietly, you could see the young staff wide-eyed in wonderment of what he was about to teach.

“Anyone can count the seeds in an apple, but only God can count the number of apples in a seed.” He would quote from Robert H. Schuller.

This example was the start of training for all of the summer staff each summer and something that I have carried with me through the years, in every place God calls me to serve.

Winebrenner is serving students during their theological education journey. Professors and staff will interact with thousands of students over the years. They may work with them for a day, a semester, or multiple years! We see these small fragments in time in front of us. We can account for credit hours. We can account for courses taken. We can account for materials covered. What we can’t see is how each student’s life will change the world because of their service in God’s Kingdom.

Winebrenner Theological Seminary makes theological education accessible by providing opportunities like our, online courses, incredible $300 a month tuition, our teaching pastors in Kenya, our Marion Correctional Institution program, providing access to graduate education through Bachelor Equivalency, and our Summer 2024 Experiment. It’s easy to look at these programs and see them for what they are, an apple. Only God can see the legacy of the true amount of fruit from the seeds of these programs, courses, and quality theological education.

Disciples of Jesus, learning and growing to make more disciples of Jesus. Pastors caring for their flock, a counselor being the light in the world to a young student, a ministry leader counseling a young couple for marriage, a missionary serving in an orphanage, a youth leader teaching scriptures to hungry minds.
