Meet Martin (“Marty”): Winebrenner’s new Chief Academic Officer

Organizations are constantly organizing and reorganizing around mission and strategy. In that spirit, I am excited to announce that Dr. Martin Johnson has joined Winebrenner as our Chief Academic Officer. You can read the full history of how we reached this point by clicking here. 

Read below to learn more about Dr. Johnson:

In full-time ministry for over 35 years, Martin has served in churches ranging in size from church plant to mega-church in both Kansas and Ohio. His ministry positions have included ministry with youth, children, and families, as an executive pastor, and as a lead pastor.

Ordained in Kansas in 1995, Martin earned his Master of Science degree in Family Studies from Friends University in Wichita, Kansas, his Master of Divinity degree from Winebrenner Theological Seminary, and his Doctor of Ministry degree from Winebrenner with an emphasis on adult discipleship.

Since 2012, Martin has served as an adjunct instructor at Winebrenner Theological Seminary teaching on the master’s and doctoral level. Martin has also taught as an adjunct instructor at Ashland Theological Seminary and in the Pastor’s Training Institute certification program and the Institute for Christian Studies at both Marion Correctional Institution and Toledo Correctional Institution. While attending Winebrenner and upon graduation, Martin served as the part-time Coordinator of Student Academic Support.

Martin has served the Ohio state ministries of the Church of God (Anderson) as a member of the state Credentials Team and currently as a member of the NW District Credentials Team. He has served the district, state, and national church through speaking, teaching, and writing. He has been both coach and consultant for pastors and churches for the past 25 years, and has done pre-marital coaching, parenting coaching, and individual life coaching his entire career. He holds the designation of Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) with the National Council of Family Relations.

Martin, known to all as “Marty,” has been married to Gail since 1985. Gail is a successful entrepreneur in NW Ohio operating the distinguished salon, Hair!, since 1999. The Johnsons have one son, Zachary, who graduated from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee and now works in the music industry in the Music City and on national and international tours. Marty and Gail enjoy traveling, restoring old houses, and having friends over to play board games.
