
Dr. Karen McGibbon, moved from Jamaica – her home country, in January 2017 to live in Findlay Ohio, and serve as a full-time clinical counseling faculty member at Winebrenner Theological Seminary. Little did she know that God had been preparing her for her whole life for such a time as this!
Karen was born and raised in Jamaica. By the time she began her undergraduate studies at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica, she knew that Math and the Sciences would be the focus of her academic life, but she did not expect to leave university with a major in Marine Biology and a minor in Botany!Karen went on to attain a master’s degree in Pastoral Psychology and Counseling from St. Stephen’s College – Canada, a Ph.D. in Counselor Education & Supervision at Regent University – USA, and she recently completed a Doctorate in Ministry at Winebrenner Theological Seminary. Karen is a Certified Life Coach specializing in Happiness Coaching, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Jamaica and Ohio, and is also a National Certified Counselor. Karen’s doctoral dissertation project was to create a research-based theology course for clinical counseling courses that she is delighted to be currently teaching.
Karen has been an educator for over thirty years, teaching a wide range of students from the high school to the doctoral level. She has also provided professional counseling services for over fifteen years initially as a school counselor and eventually as a private practitioner and licensed professional counselor, with Telehealth being her specialty. Additionally, Karen authored three workbooks – “Life Lessons, A Personal Development Workbook for Secondary School Students” for Grades 7, 8 & 9 currently being used in High Schools all over Jamaica.
Karen has served at all levels of Christian ministry for over thirty years together with her husband Frank. God has blessed them with a wonderful son and daughter, a son-in-law and a precious granddaughter. For fun, Karen loves to cook, eat, go for walks in nature, ride her bicycle and listen to audiobooks.
