Earlier this year I had the privilege of co-teaching a course at the Toledo Correctional Institution and was reminded on a weekly basis about the role Winebrenner is playing in the lives of these men. Just like you and me, they are saved by the grace of Jesus and desire to grow more mature in their relationship with Him. Today, I am excited to announce that later this summer 11 men will be graduating from our current academic program at the Marion Correctional Institution!
By the end of July these men will have completed 39 credits in their academic journey (the full list of courses is near the bottom of this post). We offer 12-week courses three times a year at each location. Our work at the Marion Correctional Institution and Toledo Correctional Institution is just one way we are carrying out our mission to equip leaders for service in God’s kingdom.
[We have a second cohort at the Marion Correctional Institution that is on track to graduate next year – stay tuned for more information. And, we just spoke with another facility in the state of Ohio earlier today that is considering inviting Winebrenner into their context as well – God is on the move in the Ohio prison system!]
God’s work at these facilities is a significant investment in both time and finances. I am inviting you to consider joining us in this journey, specifically in the following ways:
- Pray for the students and instructors. We currently have courses running at both institutions – students at Marion are enrolled in Method and Practice of Biblical Theology while student at Toledo are enrolled in Hermeneutics.
- Pray about what role you can serve within this relationship. Specifically, I invite you to consider supporting this effort financially. It costs Winebrenner between $20,000 – $25,000 to fund a single year at each individual location (the variance is due to the number of students which affects the number of textbooks, etc.). We are committed to this relationship but also desire to be good stewards of our resources and do not want to extend ourselves beyond what God is providing through the generosity of you and many others. A link to give is below.
- Pray about the role your church can play in this relationship. I would love the opportunity to share more with you, your church leadership, or Sunday School class or small group about the impact this program has on the students. I have many first hand stories from my own teaching at Toledo and will share with those interested in hearing more.
Your gift will make a kingdom difference in 2024! Part of our decision about expanding our work will be informed by the level of funding we have for our current projects.
